Welcome to Collabco's face behind the logo series, where we give you an insight into the people behind myday. This time, we sat down with our Front-End Developer, Przemyslaw. He spoke about his day-to-day role, past experiences and how utilising technology allows him to stay in contact with his family from the other side of the world!
Q - When did you join Collabco and what attracted you to the company?
A - I joined Collabco in September 2017. I had been working as a Full-Stack Developer but decided to start looking for a new challenge in my career. I believed that Collabco was and still is the leader in the education technology industry, with a platform built using the latest technologies and company culture. My mind was made up, I wanted to work here.
Q - What is your day-to-day role and what’s your favourite part about it?
A - My typical day in the office is usually maintenance and helping support customers, discussing and implementing new features, improving the platform and fixing existing issues. My favourite part of the job is collaborating with the team whilst implementing new features.
Q - What’s your favourite feature within myday that you’ve developed?
A - I think my favourite feature is the banner app elements fitting to any banner size. The new version of the banner app lets you create a banner, add some images or containers with text and set up the background like colour, gradient or cropped image. I remember because I spent a couple of days trying to resolve associated issues but once it was done, it was really rewarding!
Q - What’s the difference between backend and frontend development?
A - Frontend and backend refer to the separation of concerns between the presentation layer and the data access. The frontend is commonly referred to as client-side development. That focuses on everything that user see, experience, touch and interact on a website or application. On the other side is backend which is commonly referred to as server-side development and this is everything focused on data, functionality and algorithms. Building websites has changed over time and solutions on the frontend need latest technologies and developer skills. They're both very different, but just as important as each other!
Q - Where do you see myday going in the future?
A - Comparing the last two versions of myday I can confidently say that myday will be around for a long time. The platform has changed in the last few years and developed with an ever-changing market. I think myday is going to be a multifunctional platform offering new solutions and features not only to the education sector but many more. The company knows and understands customer needs, as well as product capabilities, and I have no doubt we can build partnerships in new territories and sectors.
Q - How important is technology to you when you aren’t in work?
A - Technology is hugely important to me, I can not imagine a typical day without technology. Technology prominently increases transparency and efficiency for getting a job done. Technology also eliminates the wastage of time and money. It helps me keep in contact with my family, who are two thousand miles away from where I live! It even helps me relax - listening to music, playing video games or watching television.
Q - What are the different types of tech you use every day?
A - The list is really long, I use a lot of types. Starting from basic appliances such as a microwave, washing machine and vacuum cleaner to a smart speaker, smart bulbs, Chromecast and many more. I could probably live without a smartphone but I couldn't imagine my life without a washing machine!
